要旨 / Outline

Social contingency is crucial for child development, but the specific factors that contribute to this are not well understood. To explore this, we moved beyond experiments where contingency is one-directional (adults respond to infants) and instead created a new method where infants and adults interact in real-time using eye gaze in a 2D virtual space. This setup allows us to study two-way interactions, including mutual attention, turn-taking, and timing between infants and adults. We show that social contingency affects infant behavior even in this streamlined context, and we further examine how this context influences word learning.
