This workshop will discuss the global contexts of sociotechnical transformation and shifting cultural sensibilities using the example of computer gaming. The presenter will focus on the emergence of the global game industry as a legitimate and respected business in the everyday consciousness of Korean people. It will be argued that specific government policies, which enabled access to digital literacy opportunities have been instrumental in laying the groundwork for a ubiquitous online game culture in Korea.
